Toni Stockhausen Head Winemaker

Toni Stockhausen

Toni Stockhausen has been Windsor Vineyards' winemaker since February 2000, when she succeeded Carol Shelton. A native of Australia and the daughter of legendary Lindemans winemaker Karl Stockhausen, Toni moved to California in 1999 to become winemaker for Bayliss & Fortune, a U.S. subsidiary of Australia's Mildara Blass Wines, which also owns Windsor Vineyards.

Before Mildara brought Stockhausen to the United States, she was senior winemaker at the Mildara winery in Coonawarra, one of Australia's premier winegrowing regions. Previously she was the winemaker at Tisdall winery in Victoria, Australia, where she made the highly regarded Mt. Ida Shiraz, which won numerous trophies and medals at major Australian wine shows.

When asked about how she enjoys winemaking in California, Stockhausen says, "I feel right at home here. California has many similarities with Australia, where we draw on fruit from a variety of distinct growing regions, each with their own unique character and qualities."

Although Toni Stockhausen comes from a winemaking family, she did not work in the wine industry until after she graduated from Sydney's Macquarie University, where she majored in physiology. She began her professional career in the wine industry working in the lab at Lindemans in the Hunter Valley after college. Stockhausen later spent two years working at wineries in France and Italy, before returning to Australia in 1985 to earn a degree in winemaking from Charles Sturt University.

Windsor Vineyards provides an exciting challenge for Toni Stockhausen, as the winery makes more than 40 wines and has won more awards at major wine competitions than any other winery each year for the past three years. "Windsor has exceptional vineyard resources, a top-quality winemaking program and a track record of success that are very appealing to me as a winemaker," Stockhausen says.
