RED WINES
Some say the best wine is any wine you drink with good friends, and we not only agree with that, we've proven it on many occasions! But we're also proud of the fact that the experts have chosen to call our wines "the best" at so many of the national competitions. In fact, for the third year in a row, Windsor Vineyards has been named the top award-winning winery by California Wine Winners. California Wine Winners is an annual publication that tracks and compiles results from nine major U.S. wine competitions. But our most important critics are customers like you. Share these superb wines for special occasions from weeknight dinners to birthdays and anniversaries. With your name or personal message on the label, it's a gift you'll be proud to give...exclusively from Windsor. Aromas are reminiscent of Bordeaux wines, offering subtle hints of sour cherry, mint and fennel. Flavors are consistent with the nose: sour cherry and mint, along with the classic Cabernet flavors of cigar box and bay leaf. Nice dusty tannins offset the bright acid for a well-constructed wine that's at its very best with food. Winner of six Gold Medals and Best of Class. Also named "Best New World Cabernet Sauvignon" at the 2002 New World International Wine Competition. Also available in a Double Magnum which is 3 liters. 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon, North Coast, Vintner's Reserve, Private Reserve Aromas of roses, lilacs, violets and mint lead to forward fruit flavors. Lots of jammy blackberry and black currant flavor, with soft, dusty tannins and a nice note of fennel. Gold Medal winner.
2000 Cabernet Sauvignon, Mendocino County, Private Reserve.
1999 Cabernet Sauvignon, Simoneau Ranch, Private Reserve 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles. Earthy black cherry aromas, with a whiff of rich cream. Flavors are also earthy black cherry, with bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and nice green herbs in the finish. A great food wine, especially if you're in the mood for a burger! Gold Medal winner. 1998 Meritage, Sonoma County, Private Reserve. Layers of complex aromas: cassis, dried red fruit, aromatic pipe tobacco, spicy oak, and even a hint of lavender. Mouthfeel is smooth, with an earthy quality and light, dusty tannins. Flavors of chocolate covered cherry, with a bright cherry finish. Winner of seven Silver Medals. 2000 Pinot Noir, Sonoma County, Signature Series Lovely aromas of sandalwood and bright cherry lead to great Pinot Noir flavor that one of our wine tasters called "like picking berries in August with stained fingers." This is a great wine that has already won five Silver Medals.
2000 Zinfandel, North Coast, Signature Series Luscious aromas and flavors of sweet berries, layered with cinnamon and chocolate. This is a positively voluptuous wine, like a chocolate raspberry torte. Round, rich and velvety, with a cappuccino finish. This one is bound for stardom! 1999 Zinfandel, North Coast. What a big, beautiful Zinfandel! Lush aromas of raspberry, blackberry, cocoa and toasty vanilla. Rich, robust berry flavors with complex layers of licorice, cassis and espresso. Mouthfeel is like black velvet, and the finish tastes like the dusty cocoa on a fine chocolate truffle. Winner of five Silver Medals 1999 Merlot, Sonoma County, Signature Series. Bright and beautiful. Spicy black fruit and cherry cola aromas, lifted by a hint of violets. The earthy blackberry, red cherry and vanilla fruitiness nearly leaps out of the glass. Young and vivacious now, this wine will age well. Winner of two Gold Medals and Best of Class. 2001 Merlot, Mendocino County, Private Reserve. Aromas of forest floor and aromatic pipe tobacco hover over floral notes of roses and violets in this easy-going, fruit-forward red wine. Flavors are black cherry to the max, leading to a touch of espresso and anise before the nice smoky finish. Try this food-friendly wine with seared tuna with black pepper crust. Newly released. 1999 Syrah, Dry Creek Valley, Private Reserve. This wine poses a delightful riddle: how can a wine be so bright and fresh-tasting, yet so rich and jammy? This wonderful Rhone-style wine shows a deep, dark plummy color and meaty, smoky, black cherry aromas. Light to medium in body, with a long finish and a soft, mellow mouthfeel. Flavors of black pepper, licorice, fennel, bacon and ripe black cherry. Gold Medal winner.
1998 Syrah, Sonoma County, Private Reserve.
A definitive example of this red Rhone varietal. Smoky, meaty aromas of dried red fruit, balanced
by good earthy flavors. Notes of ripe cherries, blueberries and oak. An exellent wine
to serve with game; try it with pheasant or goose for a traditional holiday meal.
1998 Petite Sirah, Mendocino County. This cuvee of Petite Sirah with smaller amounts of Zinfandel and Carignane is a perfect example of the art of blending. The distinctive peppery, spicy quality of the Petite Sirah grape is evident in both aromas and flavors... and its deep, almost black purple color is unique to Petite Sirah. Our winemaker has blended just enough of the other two grape varieties to make this wine soft, round, fruity and eminently drinkable despite its heartiness. Winner of four Gold Medals.
1998 Carignane, Mendocino County. |
